Welcome

Welcome to Cambridge Road C P & N School. I am delighted that your child will be joining our class in September and I am very much looking forward to meeting you and getting to work with your child.

Here you will find lots of information about up and coming events in school. You will also be able to find out about our current topics and access links to help with classwork and homework.

Sessions
The children will have a staggered entry into Reception during the first three weeks of September. As from Friday 15th September they will become full time. The induction meeting in May / June will give parents the opportunity to see how the children are introduced into Reception.

Homework
The children will be given homework every Thursday to be returned by the following Wednesday. Homework will be related to the work that we have done in class that week. The children will also be encouraged to read story books with an adult or older sibling.
Reading books containing words will not be given out until the children are secure with the majority of their phonemes. When books are given the children will be expected to read EVERY night and a comment should be made in their reading journals. Books will be changed on a Thursday each week.

Each week 6 words will be sent home with your child. Please help them to learn to read these words by either sounding out the word (c-a-t, o-n, a-n-d) or helping them to recognise what the word says (he, my, the, we).

You can do this in lots of different ways – the more enjoyable and creative the better!

A few ideas to start you off:

• Pairs- writing the words on card and taking it in turns to turn the cards over to see if the words match!
• Snap!
• Writing them outside in chalk
• Jumping on the words as they read them.
• Making them with playdough
• Writing with paint and cotton buds!

Each week I will be reading with the children to see how well they are getting on with reading their words.
