Online Safety

Cambridge Road Primary School takes online safety very seriously and works hard to ensure that all pupils are supported to use the internet safely and responsibly. We teach online safety regularly through our curriculum, including lessons on keeping personal information private, recognising inappropriate content, and understanding how to behave respectfully online.

Staff are trained to identify and respond to online safety concerns, and robust filtering and monitoring systems are in place on all school devices to protect pupils while they are online. We also work closely with parents and carers by sharing guidance and resources so that online safety is reinforced at home as well as in school, helping children to feel confident, safe, and supported in the digital world.

At Cambridge Road, we use resources from the NSPCC, to educate our children on how to use technology safely. Below, you will see our featured topics throughout the year, as provided on our monthly news letter. Keeping children safe online | NSPCC

Ten Tips for online safety

  1. Do not give out personal information such as your address, telephone number, parents' work address/telephone number or the name and address of your school without your parents' or carers' permission.

  2. Do tell your parents right away if you come across any information that makes you feel uncomfortable - don't feel embarrassed because it's really easy to come across bad sites by mistake.

  3. Do not ever agree to get together with someone you 'meet' online without first checking with your parents.  If your parents agree to the meeting, be sure that you meet in a public place and take a responsible adult with you.

  4. Do not ever send a person your picture or anything else without first checking with your parents.

  5. Do not respond to any messages that are mean or in any way make you feel uncomfortable.  It is not your fault if you get a message like that.  If you do tell your parents right away so they can contact the service provider.

  6. Do talk to your parents so that you can set up rules for going online. With your parents decide upon the time of day that you can be online, the length of time you can be online and the appropriate areas for you to visit.  Do not access other ares or break the rules without permission.

  7. Do not give out your internet password to anyone (even your best friends) other than your parents.

  8. Do check with your parents before downloading or installing any software or doing anything that could possibly damage your computer or jeopardize your family's privacy.

  9. Do be a good online citizen and not do anything that hurts other people or is against the law.

  10. Do help your parents/carers understand how to have fun and learn things online and teach them things about the internet, computers and technology.
