SEND

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

The school aims to provide a full educational entitlement where every child receives quality opportunities and experiences in order to develop to their full potential within a secure and happy environment. This can best be summed up as:

‘Enriching lives, making a difference’

Our aims are to:

  • Identify at the earliest opportunity all children who need special consideration to support their physical, sensory, social, emotional, communication or cognitive development.

  • Follow Cambridge Road C P & N School’s Graduated Response.

  • Ensure that these children are integrated into all activities of the school in order to promote the highest levels of achievement.

  • Ensure that these children are given appropriate support to allow every child full access to the National Curriculum in a positive framework.

  • Involve parents in developing a partnership of support, enabling them to have full confidence in the strategy adopted by the school.

  • Raise the aspirations of and expectations for all children with SEND.

A child or young person has special educational needs (SEN) if they have a learning difficulty or disability (SEND) which calls for special educational provision to be made for them.

They have a learning difficulty or disability if they have:

  • A significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age, or

  • A disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools.

This may be covered within the 4 broad areas of need:

 • Communication and interaction

 • Cognition and learning

 • Social, mental and emotional health

 • Sensory/physical

Special educational provision means educational or training provision that is additional to, or different from, that made generally for other children or young people of the same age by mainstream schools.

All teachers are responsible for planning a curriculum that meets the needs of specific groups of children and responds to their diverse learning needs through adaptive teaching.

We review the support children receive and the progress they make regularly by assessing pupils needs, designing and adapting previous plans, delivering support and then reviewing this support. This creates a review process called the graduated approach.

If you are worried about your child in anyway, please speak with the class teacher to discuss your concern. We always have an 'open door' policy and appointments can be made with the class teacher if a more in-depth discussion is needed.
