World Ostomy Day (also called Ostomy Awareness Day in some regions) is a global awareness day dedicated to the millions of people living with an ostomy (a surgically created opening in the abdomen for the discharge of bodily waste). The day serves to:
Raise awareness of ostomy surgery and the life changes that come with it.
Break down stigma and misconceptions around ostomies.
Celebrate and empower the community of people living with ostomies (often called “ostomates”).
Advocate for better access to appropriate care, support, and equipment.
The children at Cambridge Road celebrated Ostomy awareness day by wearing purple. Our very own Eliza gave a fantastic awareness during assembly too. We are so proud of all of the children for helping to raise awareness.
