Ostomy Awareness

What is it?

World Ostomy Day (also called Ostomy Awareness Day in some regions) is a global awareness day dedicated to the millions of people living with an ostomy (a surgically created opening in the abdomen for the discharge of bodily waste). The day serves to:

  • Raise awareness of ostomy surgery and the life changes that come with it.

  • Break down stigma and misconceptions around ostomies.

  • Celebrate and empower the community of people living with ostomies (often called “ostomates”).

  • Advocate for better access to appropriate care, support, and equipment.

The children at Cambridge Road celebrated Ostomy awareness day by wearing purple. Our very own Eliza gave a fantastic awareness during assembly too. We are so proud of all of the children for helping to raise awareness.
